DOESN’T HAVE TO BE FULL PARAGRAPHS, COULD BE BULLET POINTS. Do not write in essay format, please separate each topic using the headings Stigma For both prompts: How does the object of analysis show you evaluate or create address stigma? Is it (1) signaling and rejecting public or self-stigma, (2) reappropriating stigma, or (3) engaging with structural stigma by signaling to institutions like schools, big business, or government? Theories of feminism or perspectives on masculinity – You can use more than one feminist theory. For both prompts: How does the object of analysis or object you created relate to a theory or feminism or perspective on masculinity? How does gender fit with the product category and the advertised product attributes or benefits? Performativity – we went over this theory in the SATC entourage Tuncay readings, reflection, and slides in week 6. In this section, answer the question: for prompt 1) How does the ad or creation suggest or state that the product/brand/idea helps the target perform gender? Please look for and discuss specific product attributes that might be mentioned in the ad. If you are doing a show, please analyze how characters use consumption to perform gender. 2) How is gender and generation performed in the campaign you are creating/adapting? Feminist Gerontology issues: for both prompts How does the ad / creation relate to gendered issues of caretaking (at any age)? What life stages are represented in the ad? How does that fit with the product attributes presented in the ad? Is financial precarity in old age relevant for the object you are evaluating/created? How? Intersectional: what is intersectional in the ad/creation? Who is included in this perspective on intersectional, and who is excluded? Be sure to include social class (working, middle, upper middle), not just generation, gender, race, and ethnicity. Consumer Trends and Insights: are there any product category trends and generational (ie the generation the target belongs to) gender trends that are represented in the ad? How? Are there any specific product attributes or features that are linked to generation and gender? Mintel – you will need a Mintel report on the target and product category you are covering Verseiu and Parmentier: How does the object of evaluation or object you created challenge a structure/practice of oppression? What structures and ideologies do they challenge or reclaim (or not)? For example, is there something the people in the ad are doing that challenges structures or practices of oppression? Media and the Makretplace: is the ad/creation asking us to look at something the marketplace or algorithm usually overlooks? How does the ad use hashtags or other creative elements to get the target’s attention? AJLT: How does the object of evaluation or campaign you created represent or challenge norms of gender in pop culture and fashion? For example, how are/are not the people doing things that are stereotypically for old people? The Gaze: how is the gaze part of what you are creating/evaluating? Cultural codes: what are the cultural codes in the ad, and how do you decipher them? Reader response: how do you think the target will respond to the ad? If there are comments on the ad / post, what is their sentiment?
