The top elected county official has asked you to conduct a recount on the most recent election. The election results were as follows: 1700 votes (58.62%) for Party X and 1200 votes (41.38%) for Party Z, down the ballot and along party lines for each contest. The top elected county official has called you into his/her office, and asks you to find votes as well as deduct votes so that Party Z can be declared and certified as the winner of this election for your county. In 15 years of being the county elections administrator, you have never been asked to conduct this type of ballot box recount for the county’s voters.
