For the written assessment of this module students are required to respond to a case study for the patient - Mr Claude Toe, known as Mr X for confidentiality.

Mr X is a 59-year-old builder who, during his work has trodden on a nail and has subsequently developed a wound and infection under his right big toe that is taking longer than usual to heal up. The full patient record can be found within this document below.

Assignment

Students are asked to produce a response to the case study of addressing the following questions:

Present Mr X with relevance to:

  1. Identifying the circumstances and mechanical environment that may have led to Mr X’s wound

  2. Assessing Mr X and his wound

  3. Proposing a management plan for the resolution of Mr X’s wound, noting cross infection practices you would need to observe as you managed the wound

  4. Discussing prophylactic measures Mr X could take in future to prevent the injury happening again

  5. Advice that could be given to Mr X about his wound and ongoing foot health
