Part C - The task: Report guidelines

Imagine you are an HR consultant working with a client, or an HR manager within the organisation. Your task is to develop a plan that demonstrates your understanding of strategic and operational recruitment and selection issues within a business context. You are to develop a start-to-finish plan for the recruitment and selection process that you recommend be implemented for the next time this role is to be recruited by this organisation.

Each of the above roles varies widely depending on the specific context, so you need to describe exactly what you want from THIS role in THIS organisation. You are to invent a fictitious organisation and describe the specific role in that organisation. You may base your work on something you have experienced, read or heard about, and you may call or interview others to help you better understand the role. You are not required to consider the remuneration, compensation or potential industrial relations implications of this role, as many students will not have studied these.

Your report is to include each of the following parts, with their suggested word count:

Part D - Internet, AI use and policy

The primary source for this assignment is your prescribed textbook, lectures and tutorial discussions. To save time on some elements, however, you are encouraged to use the internet, Google and/or artificial intelligence (AI) to help create this report. Some AI tools are good summaries and their conversational tone makes them easy to read, which will assist your learning. However, they are not always accurate, complete or appropriate for a particular context, perspective or level of analysis. This assignment challenges you to be better than the AI tools available to you. You are expected to build on and improve upon AI’s responses, to ensure your report is precisely tailored to the context you have described. Students who use AI (e.g., ChatGPT) to assist their learning in this assignment must recognise and acknowledge AI's limits including:

  • First, take the perspective that you cannot trust anything AI gives you. Assume any number or fact is wrong unless you either know the answer or can check it with another You are responsible for any errors or omissions. That means you need to confirm any advice you use from AI.

  • Second, and outside the word count for this assignment, you must acknowledge your use of AI by including a paragraph at the end of this assignment explaining what you used the AI to search for, generate or produce, and what specific prompts you used to get the results:

  • Keep annotated records of PDFs of the actual academic papers/reports/other sources on which you’ve based your work.

  • Keep evidence of your working timeline for the assessment (e.g. a history through Google docs).

  • Third, if you use AI then you must include AI citations and/or references as usual at the end of your Failure to appropriately cite your use of AI is a violation of academic honesty policies.

Part E - Length, writing and presentation style, citations and referencing:

  • Length : The maximum report length is 2,000 words, plus your job description and advertisement but excluding any references if you use them. Include your word count at end of report. The report has ten parts:

  • The guidelines suggest 1800 of the 2000 word count across 8 parts of the assignment to give you a sense of how much we expect you to write. You can vary the word count to suit what is important in your role.

  • The job description and advertisement (Parts 2, 6) that have standard business formats are NOT included in your total word count, as most will be pro-forma copied from external sources and only adapted for this assignment.

Part F - Due dates, late submissions and special consideration

  • Due : The report is to be submitted electronically through Turnitin by midnight on the Sunday of Week 12 but may be submitted earlier. Because all the information you require is available from the first day of this unit, it is unlikely an extension will be granted for this assignment. After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.

  • Special Consideration : To request an extension on the due date/time for a timed or non-timed assessment task, you must submit a Special Consideration application within 5 (five) business days of the due date and time. An application for Special Consideration does not guarantee approval. Note: In the submitted copy to Turnitin, please DO include your references. Turnitin currently accepts MS Word(xxx.doc) format. (i.e. not PDF, PowerPoint, etc). Turnitin will check your assignment against over a billion internet articles, academic articles and previously submitted assignments in order to identify cases which should be checked for plagiarism.
