PowerOnTheRoof (PoTR) Update

PoTR currently have an extensive investment in modern Cloud applications, on premise legacy systems, IoT systems, client workforce devices and management and Operational Technology (OT) systems for manufacturing and development of their Solar technologies.

The PoTR solar systems are market leaders in both solar efficiency and in reporting, intelligence and management. In fact, the customized micro-controllers have been internally developed within the company and offer considerable computing power.

Melon Tusk and his team have now seen this as an opportunity to enter the valuable crypto-currency marketplace, utilizing excess energy consumption and the powerful inbuilt processing to allow every solar tile the potential to be a crypto-miner when excess energy is detected.

You are a highly paid consultant who specializes in helping large organisations improve their agility through the use of micro services. You have been engaged by PoTR and Melon Tusk to plan a microservices deployment of the crypto-mining command and control environment based upon the high level application design document. Your general objective is to produce a scoping document to convince Melon Tusk to use your company to carry out the deployment of the crypto-mining command and control environment and overall integration with the IoT solar panel processors.

Task Description

Provide a high level design (products and technologies) that could be used to assist PoTR to plan/budget for implementing the new system using micro services (in particular, container based micro services). Your proposal should be sufficient to allow your senior engineers to create low-level designs for each proposed system. You will need to:

  • Provide justification of a micro services architecture for PoTR in line with their stated business goals. How will micro services assist PoTR in reaching their goals?

  • Assess the suitability of micro services for PoTR as a means of delivering the company’s new technology services. Assess technical and business limiters, and potential mitigations.

  • A preliminary assessment of how you would deploy the micro services, and the impacts expected (positive and negative, risks). Assess alternate strategies.

  • Provide recommendations for PoTR. These need to be supported by your analysis. Consider risk vs reward.

  • Provide a high-level design for your proposed micro services environment. This should be high-level and provide sufficient comprehensive detail to allow a senior engineer to create a deployment plan.
