REQUIREMENTS and EXPECTATONS FOR THE DOCUMENTED ESSAY WRITE ABOUT EFFCT OF techn

REQUIREMENTS and EXPECTATONS FOR THE DOCUMENTED ESSAY WRITE ABOUT EFFCT OF technology OF KIDS THESE DAYS UNLESS YOU HAVE A BETTER TOPIC (not a arguementive essay) Upon completion of this module, you should be able to: 1. Research and write a documented essay 2. Paraphrase and summarize peer-reviewed secondary sources 3. Document sources in-text and on References page in APA format Your final course assignment is the Documented Essay. Please review all material in the module for assignment five. This the light research essay of 6-7 pages will include 6-7 peer-reviewed secondary sources. Find those in the SFC library databases. You will use APA format, models of which exist on the SFC Library portal and on the Purdue Online Writing Lab (Links to an external site.) site. In a nutshell, you want to find a subject on which you can write 6-7 pages by using 6-7 peer-reviewed articles. The paper must demonstrate that you can create in-text citations and a bibliography using APA format – that is very important. There are lots of materials in module five to help you, including actual SFC student samples. Pay attention, as well, to the thesis handouts (an early unit exercise). We cannot stress enough how good use of the peer-reviewed secondary material will drive this essay, and to that end, you should pay attention to the handouts labeled “How to Study and Learn” Download “How to Study and Learn” and “Analyzing Sources.” Download “Analyzing Sources.” Those handouts specifically address ways around simply summarizing what you are reading and getting to enabling assumptions behind various claims (the purpose of the Argument Analysis assignment). The Documented Essay is not difficult. If you start with a person (e.g., Charles Darwin) and then find a focus in there (e.g., evolution and mutation of viruses) you will be okay. Or start with a broad subject like exercise science and narrow it down. See the Start Here page for some suggestions. But remember: the litmus test is that you can pool a good number of peer-reviewed secondary sources on your subject to explain and discuss. Believe us, if you find something you are interested in and perhaps related to your major, you might think 7 pages are not enough. Try to have fun with this. Please use the Discussion Board as a work space for comments, questions, and suggestions. You’ll see that we’ve also included two short videos put together by our library on how to search in Academic Search Complete and Proquest. These are really powerful databases. Just make sure that when you conduct a search you ask the database to return articles that are either academic/peer-reviewed. There’s a check-off box noted in the videos. To start, you should have a working thesis – for this assignment it could even be a rhetorical question you want to address or answer. For example, why are exercise and fitness important? Or, what’s the difference between exercise and fitness? Take notes according to the handouts and Hacker: How to Study and Learn; Analyzing Sources (as noted). Paraphrase and summarize in your own words. Consider questions, ideas, and assumptions in what you read. Wrestle with what you read. Agree. Disagree. Discuss. Explain. Analyze. Interpret. Engage with the peer-reviewed secondary material. If you can do all of that, you are writing the paper as you go along. Revise later. Keep quotes down to a minimum, and don’t use block quotes, but certainly use APA references appropriately. Sample in-text citations and References pages are on the SFC Library portal and the Purdue OWL (Links to an external site.).
