On what normative/moral and empirical/practical basis and justification should we pursue one version of democracy over another? One aspect of justification to consider and highlight is which version is/might be better at protecting against democratic erosion or backsliding? Here note that the normative basis must invoke either freedom, welfare, or flourishing/virtue or other normative principles/theories you are familiar with from your core ethics classes, and you must invoke either Gilman, Dahl, Schumpeter, and/or V-Dem for your preferred model of democracy.
