Week 2 Discussion Week 2 Discussion The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week on the basis of the course competencies covered. For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned and complete your participation for this assignment by Day 7. To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use resources from the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format. You may use the APA Citation Helper found in the South University Online Library as a convenient reference for properly citing resources. Begin reviewing and replying to peer postings/responses early in the week to enhance peer discussion. See the rubric for participation points. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing viewpoints with a rationale, challenging aspects of the discussion, or indicating relationships between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Always use constructive language, even in criticism, to work toward the goal of positive progress. TASK Post your initial response to one of the two topics below. Topic 1 Determine how well your clinical setting staffs their unit: What system is used determine staffing on your unit? A patient classification system? What type do they use? Commercial? Hospital developed? Nurse-to-patient ratios? What is the typical nurse–to-patient ratio? What is the typical staff mix on the unit? Does your unit utilize LPNs/LVNs? Does your unit utilize other non-licensed personnel? Are staff cross-trained to cover multiple positions? Topic 2 The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many ways we normally communicate with the interprofessional team and patients. Respond to the following questions: How has communication with patients changed? Provide examples. What are you doing to better communicate with patients and families? How has communication among the interprofessional team changed? What needs to happen to make interprofessional communication better?
